Introduction

Together in Motion's autonomous vehicle (AV) shuttle operated by May Mobility provides rides in the City of Fishers Nickel Plate District and downtown area. This pilot will continue through June 2022. Together in Motion is a partnership between Toyota Mobility Foundation, Energy Systems Network (ESN), IEDC, the City of Fishers, and May Mobility to provide free AV rides to the community.

  • How many Together in Motion AV shuttles will be available?

May Mobility’s fleet includes five hybrid-electric Lexus RX 450h vehicles, as well as one fully electric Polaris GEM vehicle that is equipped to carry wheelchairs. All vehicles have been outfitted to operate without a driver, although a trained autonomous vehicle operator will be onboard at all times. May Mobility, partnering with TMF and ESN for the concurrent six-month pilots, owns and operates the fleet of autonomous vehicles.

  • Where does the Together In Motion AV service operate today?

  • When will I be able to ride in a Together in Motion AV shuttle?

Service operates from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. 

  • How will I be able to ride in a Together in Motion AV Shuttle?

The shuttles are first-come, first-serve, so if you see an open shuttle at a stop, feel free to hop on! To request the wheelchair-accessible shuttle, please call (463) 237-3915.

  • How many passengers can a Together in Motion shuttle hold?

A Together in Motion shuttle can carry up to three passengers, or one rider with a wheelchair.

  • Is a Together in Motion Shuttle wheelchair accessible?

Yes. One vehicle used for the service has a wheelchair ramp that extends and a securement system for one rider with a wheelchair.

  • Do I pay a fare?

The service is free for all riders!

  • Is it safe?

Yes. Although Together in Motion shuttles run autonomously, a trained autonomous vehicle operator will always be on board. The vehicles’ self-driving technology comes with collision avoidance systems that detect other vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians and obstacles. It is also equipped with multiple safety features.

  • If someone or something falls or jumps in front of the vehicle, will a Together in Motion Shuttle stop?

Yes. The Together in Motion vehicles are equipped with special sensors that detect objects and individuals in their path. These will trigger the vehicle to stop. Additionally, the autonomous vehicle operator on board has the ability to take control of the vehicle if necessary.

  • How fast do Together in Motion shuttles go?

The Together in Motion shuttles will travel up to speeds of approximately 25 miles per hour and will always comply with posted speed limits.

  • If a Together in Motion Shuttle is self-driving, why do you have human fleet attendants?

Autonomous vehicle operators provide an additional level of vehicle oversight and customer service.
